Overview

Concrete Testing & Mix Designs

Concrete testing verifies that the concrete going into your structure meets its specified strength and durability — protecting the structure, the programme and everyone who signs off on it. As a SANAS ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, Letaba Lab delivers results that stand up to scrutiny from engineers, auditors and clients.

We test fresh concrete for consistence (slump) and cast, cure and crush cubes for compressive strength at 7 and 28 days. For existing structures we core, test and investigate hardened concrete, and carry out Ferro scanning to establish cover and reinforcement position.

Our technicians can sample and test on-site at the point of placement, and our mix-design service helps you achieve the strength and workability you need, economically.

Our process

From sample to signed-off results

A clear, accredited workflow that keeps your programme moving.

1

Sampling

Trained staff sample fresh concrete on-site to national standards, or receive your cores.

2

Preparation & curing

Cubes are cast and cured under controlled temperature; cores are prepared for testing.

3

Accredited testing

Compressive strength and related tests are run under ISO/IEC 17025 methods on calibrated equipment.

4

Reporting

You receive clear, certified results you can hand straight to the engineer or client.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many cubes should I cast per sample?
It depends on your specification, but a common approach is a set of cubes tested at 7 and 28 days. Our technical staff will advise the right sampling frequency for your project when we quote.
When will I get my results?
Compressive strength is typically reported at 7 and 28 days after casting. We report promptly after each test age, and rush arrangements can be discussed for urgent programmes.
Can you test existing / hardened concrete?
Yes. We core-drill and test hardened concrete and carry out structural concrete investigations, including Ferro scanning to establish cover and reinforcement.
Do you provide concrete mix designs?
Yes. We design concrete mixes to achieve your required strength, durability and workability, economically.
Is your concrete testing SANAS accredited?
Yes. Letaba Lab holds SANAS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation. Confirm the exact accredited scope for your branch when requesting a quote.
